Ailsa Williamson. Textile Designer

As a Textile Designer I am inspired by the world around me.  Originally from Northern Ireland, moving to Derby in 2010 has encouraged me to travel more and to experience new places allowing my inspiration to develop.  Colour is merged into my themes boldly, changing a mundane image into an abstract, beautiful design. I love creating detail in my work and I sometimes use beads, buttons and ribbon to achieve this.  All these different elements allow my fabrics to be full of depth.

Currently studying in University of Derby in my final year of a BA HONS Textile Design Degree.  I've learnt new skills and techniques to help me develop my creativity, specialising in weave for interior design. I have really developed over the three year course and I am really focused and enjoying the collection I am working on for my final year degree show.  Motivated in creating fabrics I like to try new techniques and experiment with yarn to create contemporary up to trend samples for a high end market.

When I am not spending time weaving, I alter garments to add my own style to the dresses. (please look at the 'Dresses' section for my new collection of customized dresses).  I enjoy altering clothes as it is a different focus to weaving and allows me to gather new information and ideas to continue with my designing.
